Shoulder Pain Care in Wheaton and Naperville

Shoulder pain is not always a shoulder problem. The neck, the upper back and the shoulder blade all share the work, so we check each of them before deciding where care should go.

What brings people in

  • Pain reaching overhead or behind your back
  • A rotator cuff strain that keeps flaring up
  • A stiff shoulder that has lost its range
  • Pain at night when you lie on that side

When it is urgent. Call 911 for shoulder or arm pain that comes with chest pressure, shortness of breath or sweating. See a medical provider promptly after a fall if the shoulder looks out of place or you cannot lift the arm.

How we approach it

  1. 1

    Find where it starts

Range of motion, strength and orthopedic tests for the shoulder, with a check of the neck and upper back that often feed it.

  2. 2

    Hands-on care

Joint mobilization and muscle work for the shoulder, adjustments for the neck and upper back, and laser therapy at our Wheaton office when appropriate.

  3. 3

    Get the range back

Stretching and strengthening for the rotator cuff and shoulder blade, built up in stages.

Care is provided by Dr. Adam Tilson, D.C., and Dr. Michael Rager, D.C., chiropractic physicians. Results vary from person to person.

Common questions

Do chiropractors treat shoulders?

Yes. Illinois chiropractic physicians evaluate and treat joints and muscles throughout the body, not only the spine.

What if I have a rotator cuff tear?

The exam tells us whether conservative care is reasonable to try. If we suspect a tear that needs imaging or a surgical opinion, we refer you.
